During my 7-day trip to the Peloponnese, I had the pleasure of staying at Mystras Grand Palace Resort & Spa, a luxurious 5-star retreat nestled at the foot of the Taygetus Mountains. This stay was part of a press trip in collaboration with the Peloponnese Tourism Board and Sky Express, but as always, my opinions are 100% my own.
If you’re planning a trip to Mystras or looking for a peaceful getaway in the Peloponnese, here’s everything you need to know about Mystras Grand Palace Resort & Spa before booking your stay.
The Rooms: A Cozy & Spacious Retreat
🏡 Spacious & Thoughtfully Designed
My room at Mystras Grand Palace Resort & Spa felt warm, elegant, and incredibly spacious. It had everything I needed for a comfortable stay:
✔️ Kettle, fridge, and Nespresso coffee machine for cozy mornings.
✔️ Hairdryer, iron, and all essential toiletries provided.
✔️ A sofa lounge area and a dedicated desk, making it perfect for both relaxing and working.
🛏 Ultimate Comfort for a Restful Night
The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the pillows were just right—not too soft, not too firm. Both Chris and I slept amazingly well throughout our 7-night stay.
🌿 Private Balcony with Stunning Views
One of my favorite perks was our private balcony overlooking the lush gardens. It was the perfect spot to unwind, and even better, it had a plug socket—a great detail for anyone needing to work or charge devices while enjoying the fresh air.
🚿 A Bathroom Designed for Relaxation
The large Italian-style shower and plush bathrobes added an extra touch of comfort. After long days of hiking and exploring, there’s nothing like wrapping yourself in a soft robe to end the evening.
The Hotel Grounds: A Stunning Setting
🏔 A Resort Surrounded by Mountains
One of the most breathtaking aspects of Mystras Grand Palace Resort & Spa is its location. Nestled among the majestic Taygetus Mountains, the scenery completely elevates the experience—especially at sunrise and sunset.
🏛 Elegant Stone Architecture & Magical Night Lighting
The charming stone houses with beautifully designed archways give the resort an authentic Greek feel. At night, the soft golden lighting makes the entire place feel enchanting.
🏊♀️ Pools & Spa Facilities
✔️ Outdoor Pool – Closed during my stay, but I can imagine how dreamy it must be in summer with the mountain backdrop.
✔️ Indoor Spa – Featuring a small sauna and a jacuzzi, ideal for relaxing after a day of exploration.
🎾 Fitness & Sports Amenities
✔️ Tennis Court – A great addition for active travelers.
✔️ Gym – A bit small and lacked natural light, which made it less inviting for me to use.
🍸 Bars & Restaurants
✔️ Poolside Sports Bar & Lounge Bar near Reception – Perfect for grabbing drinks.
✔️ On-site Restaurant – Serving Mediterranean cuisine (more details below!).
Dining at Mystras Grand Palace Resort & Spa
🍽 Breakfast: A Personalized & Authentic Experience
The hotel does something really smart—it adapts the breakfast experience based on the number of guests:
✔️ À la carte breakfast on quiet mornings – A luxurious and exclusive experience where we could order anything we wanted.
✔️ Breakfast buffet on busier days – A huge selection of sweet & savory dishes, offering both international and local options.
✔️ Loved the local specialties like:
✅ Mani smoked pork 🥓
✅ Traditional milk pie 🥧
✅ Fried bread, a regional favorite 🍞
🔄 Room for Improvement in Breakfast Service
Although the variety was fantastic, after a few days, I noticed the same cakes and pastries being reused. While I’m all for reducing food waste, it would be great if the kitchen offered smaller, fresher portions daily.
🥗 Lunch & Dinner: A Mediterranean Fusion
✔️ The menu featured a mix of modern Mediterranean cuisine, but it felt less traditional than what you’d find in a local taverna.
✔️ Since we were looking for authentic Greek flavours, we chose to eat out most nights.
Sustainability & Eco-Friendly Considerations
♻️ Suggestions for More Sustainability
🔹 Switch to refillable dispensers instead of single-use plastic toiletries.
🔹 Reduce individually packaged amenities by offering them at reception only for guests who truly need them.
