Who runs this site. This website, The Freedom Traveler, is Helena Baes’s travel blog. It is run by Oui Are Social Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 12174387, which decides how your personal data is used here. Email: thefreedomtraveler@hotmail.com. Post: 9 Millender Walk, London SE16 2BL.
What I collect and why.
- Contact form. Your name (if you give it), email address, subject and message, so I can reply. I keep messages for 6 months after we last speak. I rely on my legitimate interest in answering you.
- Newsletter. Your email address, so I can send you the newsletter. I rely on your consent, which you give by subscribing. Every email has an unsubscribe link. The list is kept in this website’s own mailing tool on IONOS hosting in Germany.
- Visit statistics. I count visits with Matomo, which runs on this website’s own server, and with Google Analytics. Matomo does not use cookies and shortens IP addresses. Google Analytics only runs if you press Accept.
You can turn off visit statistics here: - Content from other companies. Some pages show Instagram posts, Google Maps, GetYourGuide booking widgets, holiday deals from icelolly and the Pin it button from Pinterest. These companies receive your IP address and may set cookies. They only load if you press Accept.
- Fonts. This site loads fonts from Google, which receives your IP address.
- Affiliate links. If you click an affiliate link, the company you go to tracks the booking with its own cookies. I earn a commission. I do not get your name or details.
- Server logs. My host, IONOS, keeps standard logs, such as IP address and page requested, for security.
Who else sees it. IONOS (hosting), and Google, Pinterest, Meta (Instagram), GetYourGuide, icelolly and Metricool only as described above. Some are outside the UK, mainly in the USA. Where a company is in the USA, the transfer relies on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on standard contract clauses.
Your rights. You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to how I use it, and to take it to another service. You can take back consent at any time. Email me and I will reply within one month. If you are unhappy, tell me first and I will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children. This site is not aimed at children under 13 and I do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes. I will change the date at the top if this page changes.
